Dr. George S. Behonick, specializing in postmortem forensic toxicology, brings 11 years of experience to forensic science

WORCESTER, MA, June 6, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. George S. Behonick, Director of Forensic Toxicology at UMass Memorial Health Care, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of forensic science.

With 11 years of experience in his field, Dr. Behonick specializes in postmortem forensic toxicology; he has extensive experience in opioid-related cases. On a daily basis he is responsible for the toxicological analysis of postmortem cases submitted by medical examiners from within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The laboratory completed 4,022 cases in 2008. He oversees all technical and administrative aspects of a laboratory which includes eight staff members. He holds the academic appointment of Assistant Professor of Pathology within the UMass Medical School and has authored/co-authored numerous peer reviewed journal articles, abstracts, and technical notes in forensic toxicology.

Dr. Behonick completed his Ph.D. studies at St. John's University in 1997, received his Master's Degree in 1983 and his Bachelor's Degree in 1980. He is a certified diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Toxicology. He holds professional affiliations in the Society of Forensic Toxicologists, the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology and the Northeastern Association of Forensic Scientists. His future professional aspirations include greater involvement in academics, writing and publishing and developing as a professional consultant in the disciplines of forensic postmortem and human performance (DUI/DUID) toxicology.
