Dr. Diane K. Jorkasky is inducted into the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering

OLD LYME, CT, September 1, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Diane K. Jorkasky, Research and Development Consultant to Industry and Academia, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of clinical research.

As a research and development consultant to industry and academia, Dr. Jorkasky specializes in the science, process and operational efficiency of the early phase of clinical research, specifically translational medicine and clinical pharmacology, having over 23 years of experience in these disciplines. Most recently, she led three international clinical research units to be the first in industry to collectively achieve certification from the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs for policies and procedures ensuring human research protection. She became involved in her profession because of her interest in how medicines were found, developed and impacted human disease.

Dr. Jorkasky received her BA from the College of Wooster in chemistry, and her MD from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where she also performed her nephrology training. She is board certified in internal medicine, nephrology and clinical pharmacology, and is an adjunct Professor of Pharmacology at Yale and Professor of Medicine at Penn and Uniformed Service of the Health Sciences. She was recently elected to the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering where she was recognized for expertise in the area of clinical pharmacology and drug development. In addition, she has been accepted as a Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow and was recently recognized by the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame and the Connecticut Technology Council for outstanding leadership as an innovator, mentor and role model. The Connecticut Quality Improvement Gold Award was presented to Dr. Jorkasky for significant improvements in the clinical research process as well. Dr. Jorkasky is a supporter of the Gateway Community College, where she will co-lead the fund raising campaign to support educational programs, the Women's Center of Southeastern Connecticut and the American Heart Association.
