Jane H. Park, Ph.D. honored for excellence in molecular physiology and biophysics

NASHVILLE, TN, January 18, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jane H. Park, Ph.D., Professor of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics Radiology and Radiological Sciences at the Vanderbilt University Medical School, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in science education.

With an unprecedented 56 years of professional experience, Jane H. Park, Ph.D. specializes in the study of molecular physiology and biophysics. Her primary fields of expertise include magnetic resonance imaging for morphology, magnetic resonance spectroscopy for biochemical analyses, enzyme production of high-energy phosphate compounds, and pathological and metabolic abnormalities in muscle diseases. Tenured with the prestigious Vanderbilt School of Medicine, Dr. Park currently conducts investigations on inflammatory muscle diseases and collaborates with medical students, residents and postdoctoral fellows. She also participates in seminars regarding her fields of expertise, publishes her findings in scientific journals, and presents papers at national and international meetings. She attributes her success to her enthusiasm for research and development, as well as the support she receives from the University and her family members, most of whom are also collegiate professors.

Dr. Park holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry and a bachelor's degree in chemistry and biology from Washington University in St. Louis, earned in 1952 and 1948, respectively. Her professional affiliations include the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, the American College of Rheumatology, the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. This year, Dr. Park was chosen as Cambridge Who's Who's "Professional of the Year in Science Education," and to be featured in "Cambridge Publishing's 101 Top Industry Leaders." Such honors are reserved for only a handful of individuals demonstrating unique excellence and integrity in their chosen fields of practice.

Ranked 15th of 126 accredited medical schools by U.S. News and World Report in 2009, the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine is one of the nation's leading schools of medicine.
