Margret Oethinger, MD PhD, Named to Exclusive Membership Organization

PORTLAND, OR, December 30, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Margret Oethinger, Director of Clinical Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics for Providence Health & Services, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in clinical microbiology and communications.
As the director of Clinical Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics for Providence Health & Services, Dr. Oethinger is responsible for overseeing the daily management of the laboratory, providing the vision for where the laboratory is heading, working on development, and consulting with clinical colleagues. She became involved in her profession because of her desire to do meaningful work, and she attributes her success to her persistence and determination.
Dr. Oethinger completed a fellowship in medical microbiology at the Cleveland Clinic in 2007, following a research fellowship in clinical pathology at Yale University/VA West Haven in 2006. She received her pathology training in the U.S. by doing a residency in anatomical and clinical pathology at the Departments of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at New Haven Hospital/Yale University from 2001 to 2005.
In her native Germany, she had completed a residency in medical microbiology at the Department of Medical Microbiology and Hospital Hygiene at the University of Ulm in 1995, and an internship in internal medicine at the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Ulm in 1991. She received a Ph.D. in endocrinology at the Medical University of Lübeck in 1989 and earned her MD at the same university in 1987.
In addition to her formal education, she received a certification in subspecialty medical microbiology from the American Board of Pathology in 2007, a certification from the American Board for Medical Microbiology in 2007, and a certification in clinical pathology from the American Board for Pathology in 2006. She is a member of the Association for Molecular Pathology, the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the College of American Pathologists, the American Society for Microbiology, and the German Society for Hygiene and Microbiology.
