LUTHERVILLE, MD, March 18, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Arjun Mallik, Retired Project Manager, Fisher Scientific Company, and former Director, Reproductive Research Laboratory of the Methodist Hospital of Brooklyn, NY, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating leadership and excellence in his career.

With 50 years of professional experience, Mr. Mallik attributes his success to the support of his wife. His responsibilities as Project Manager of New Products at Fisher Scientific Company, Inc., included development of new products in the laboratory reagent field and introducing them into the market through the marketing ad sales departments of Fisher Scientific Company and providing customer support until the market is established. Prior to that, Mr. Mallik was the Director of the Reproductive Research Laboratory where he did fundamental research in the OB/GYN area using Norwegian Albino Rats as a model. He and the Director of the OB/GYN department, Dr. C.A.B. Clemetson, MD, FACOG, FRCOG, collaborated to discover a negative electric charge on the surface of the fertilized rat blastocyst after the loss of its zona pelucida; this led to a better understanding of the mechanism of the ovum implantation process. Another area of the collaboration between Mr. Mallik and Dr. Clemetson led to the understanding of the therapeutic action mechanism of Vitamin C (also called Ascorbic Acid) in its role as nutritional supplement, especially in women heavy smokers. Mr. Mallik and Dr. Clemetson published 25 research papers in scientific journals. Mr. Mallik has also published another 20 or so papers and is the author of five US Patents. Methodist Hospital of Brooklyn was a non-profit teaching hospital affiliated with Downstate Medical Center of NY, where Fresh Medical Graduates undergo advanced practical training including research training. Methodist Hospital of Brooklyn is now a part of Cornell University complex in New York.

In 1956, Mr. Mallik received his Master of Science in Chemistry by Chemical Research in Synthetic Anti Tubercular Compounds at the Organic Chemistry Department of the Indian Institute of Science; Mr. Mallik synthesized over two dozen potential anti-tubercular compounds of which one of them proved to have a high degree of anti-tubercular activity in vitro and in vivo (murine), as much as the famous Iso-Nicotinic Acid Hydrazide (INH). For this, the Senate of the Indian Institute of Science awarded Mr. Mallik the Lady Banerjee Gold Medal in 1956. Mr. Mallik pursued his career in Chemistry largely influenced and inspired by his late lamented father who was a Professor of Chemistry.
