Jason E. Lewis Recognized for Accomplishments in Paleoanthropological Studies
Jason E. Lewis to receive Ph.D. in paleoanthropology from California's Stanford University

STANFORD, CA, March 24, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jason E. Lewis, Ph.D. Student at Stanford University, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in paleoanthropological studies.

Already an accomplished professional in the field of anthropology, Jason E. Lewis is certainly not one to rest on his laurels. Currently a Ph.D. student at the prestigious Stanford University in California, Jason has high expectations - not only for himself but for future advancements in paleoanthropological studies. Says Jason on his website, "The goal of my scientific career is to contribute to paleoanthropology by supplying new data and analysis is three areas of science: developing, standardizing, and utilizing better methodology for recording and analyzing fossil and modern human morphological variation and archaeological data; engaging in rigorous field work...and testing hypotheses about the evolution, ecology, and behavior of fossil hominids."

In an effort to realize his goal, Jason has taken on a heavy load of field research. Most recently, he was awarded the NSF Dissertation Improvement Grant to travel to Perpignan, France in order to conduct research on "Taphonomy and Zooarchaeology of the Middle Pleistocne Site of Orgnac 3 (Ardèche Valley, Southeastern France)." His prior field work has included research on the Gobaad basin in Djibouti and the Weyto Basin Area in Southern Ethiopia, as well as projects in Kenya and the Galápagos Islands. Many of Jason's research findings have been published in highly-respected scholarly journals such as the "Journal of Archaeological Science," the "American Journal of Physical Anthropology" and "PaleoAnthropology."

A skilled educator, Jason has served as a teaching assistant at Stanford University and the University of Pennsylvania on the subjects of human osteology, anthropological sciences and human evolution. He is a decorated award-winner, having received a Leakey Foundation Research Grant in 2009, the Annual Review Award for Outstanding Service in Anthropology in 2008 and The James Lowell Gibbs, Jr. Award for Outstanding Service in Anthropology in 2007 from Stanford University. Additionally, he received honorable mention in the National Science Foundation Research Fellowship Program in 2006 and earned the Department of Anthropology Senior Thesis Prize from the University of Pennsylvania in 2004.

Jason is a 2004 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he received both a master's and a bachelor's degree in anthropology. He is professionally affiliated with the American Association of Physical Anthropologists, the Paleoanthropology Society, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars and the Phi Beta Kappa Society.
