Robert Owens Johnson, Sr. is a recognized authority on fine art and portraiture
SAN JOSE, CA, March 11, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ --Robert Owens Johnson, Sr., Artist, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in fine art.
An accomplished artist, Robert Owens Johnson, Sr. is widely recognized for his work in portraiture and charcoal drawing. Now retired from NASA, he owns and operates his own studio and gallery in San Jose, California where he creates and showcases his work. His pieces feature portraits of animals and people, landscapes, seascapes, driftwood sculptures and architectural structures. Mr. Johnson is proud to have trained under highly acclaimed artists and enjoys passing on his own unique style by holding tutorials and classes pertaining to portrait painting and driftwood sculpture. In the constantly changing and dynamic world of fine art, there has been what Mr. Johnson refers to as an "onslaught" of computer art and other mechanized renditions. He notes that although the art world is evolving, there is still a strong desire for the old fashioned "easel and brush approach."
In an interview with a representative from Cambridge Publishing, Mr. Johnson recalled presenting a portrait to Dr. Catherine Hamlin, the founder of The Fistula Foundation, to commemorate over 50 years of dedicated service to the women of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He considers the experience to have been especially rewarding. Recognized amongst the art community for his uncanny ability to capture a person's "true essence" on canvas, Mr. Johnson has received various awards and accolades for his work. One of his earliest honors occurred while he was in high school when he placed third in a St. Louis-based poster contest. The contest featured the work of an excess of 1,547 artists.
Mr. Johnson completed a number of art education courses and is the current vice president of the East Valley Art Club in San Jose. He is formerly of NASA, where he served as a research assistant for over a decade. As he moves forward in his career, he intends to continue painting and showcasing his work. He is also an aspiring poet and looks forward to having his work published in the coming years.
