Anna-Susan Marais Honored by Cambridge Who's Who
Anna-Susan Marais is currently the program manager of a five-year study on the prevention of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.
CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA, July 23, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Anna-Susan Marais, program manager for a study on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders and contact person for PXE (Pseudoxanthoma Elasticum) International in South Africa.
With 12 years of professional experience, Ms Marais attributes her success to the experience she obtained in the communities of the Western Cape and the institutions she worked at. All the support she receives from her colleagues and managers played a huge part in her success in her overall career.
As program manager for the FASD, she is in charge of managing the Fetal Alcohol Prevention study conducted by the University of Stellenbosch in Cape Town, South Africa. The study is conducted in collaboration with the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. Her responsibilities include overseeing the research on fetal alcohol syndrome, conducting lectures and meetings, organizing and managing successful public awareness initiatives, and attending conferences and symposiums on fetal alcohol spectrum disorders.
As contact person for PXE International she acts as coordinator for all PXE related activities in South Africa. She facilitates the needs of both the research workers and more importantly, the needs of the individuals and their families. Her work with PXE International started in April 1998 when asked to coordinate the visit of PXE International to South Africa, the beginning of a wonderful association with the most positive people.
Ms Marais received her Bachelors Curationis degree in Nursing from the University of Pretoria in 1979. She received her Diploma in Higher Nursing Education from the University of South Africa. She is a nurse registered with the South African Nursing Council as a general nurse, midwife, psychiatric nurse, nurse educator and community health nurse. She is a member of the South African Society for Human Genetics.
