HUNTSVILLE, AL, July 23, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michelle M. Crull, Ph.D., PE, Senior Structural Engineer at the United States Army Engineering and Support Center, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Military Engineering. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only two male and two female members in each discipline are named professionals of the year. The Cambridge Who's Who selection committee chooses these special honorees based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements and leadership abilities.

A research specialist in the field of explosives, Dr. Michelle M. Crull studies the effects of volatile substances at the United States Army Engineering and Support Center. She utilizes her expertise in engineering to develop new methodologies of structural protection and conduct research on the effects of explosives. Having completed a number of high-profile projects for the military, Dr. Crull considers completing research for the United States Army regarding the construction of barricades to be the highlight of her career. The results of her research are estimated to have saved the Army several million dollars. The keys to her success, as she notes them, are hard work and familial support.

Aside from her charge at the United States Army Engineering and Support Center, Dr. Crull was employed by the University of Alabama in Huntsville (1985-1988), the United States Department of Agriculture Sedimentation Lab (1985), the University of Mississippi (1983-1985) and the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Waterways Experiment Station (1984).

In addition to her most recent honor from Cambridge Who's Who, Dr. Crull was chosen as the registry's VIP of the Year for the 2008/2009 year.

Dr. Crull earned her Ph.D. in structural engineering from Vanderbilt University in 1989, as well as a master's degree and bachelor of science in civil engineering from the University of Mississippi in 1984 and 1982 respectively. A registered professional engineer in the state of Alabama, she is an affiliate of the Society of American Military Engineers. Dr. Crull is also an avid supporter of Habitat for Humanity, the Downtown Rescue Mission and St. Joseph's Indian School.
