ZyLAB Technology Pioneers Geolocation of Evidence as a Facet of Location-Based eDiscovery
Exclusive online event "How Digital Footprints Can Belie an Alibi" explores the impact on litigation strategies.
MCLEAN, VA, March 17, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- ZyLAB, a leading eDiscovery and information management technology company at the forefront of geospatial evidence mapping, will host an online seminar titled, "Location-based eDiscovery: How Digital Footprints Can Belie an Alibi" on Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at 1:00 PM EST.
During this unprecedented event, ZyLAB's Mary Mack, Esq. will lead a discussion on extracting and plotting location details from data and devices to prove a legal argument. Location-based eDiscovery (LBED) expert, author, and litigator, David K. Isom, and Johannes Scholtes, PhD, will participate on the panel.
"The geo-spatial information stored within a person's mobile devices and ESI metadata may conflict with their own reports about their actions or whereabouts at a specific time," said Mary Mack, Esq., enterprise technology counsel at ZyLAB. "For example, the European Union Police Mission in Kosovo has been using ZyLAB software to prove that the routes taken by military troops directly correlated with the rural villages where crimes are being investigated."
Geolocation data is traditionally captured from IP addresses, phone numbers, or GSM services, but the textual content of documents is also a viable source. The content of a document may disclose meeting logistics or travel itineraries, such as one traversing "from city A to city B". With certain statistical probability, ZyLAB detects such language patterns to allocate geolocations to documents and plot them on Google Maps.
"Surveys indicate that most people fail to appreciate how much and persistent and revealing the location information is that they generate, and how important - whether helpful or harmful - that information is likely to be in litigation," said David K. Isom in his recent article on the subject which is available from this page: http://www.zylab.com/downloads/GettingtoWhere%28LBED%29.pdf.
The March 30 webinar, "Location-based eDiscovery: How Digital Footprints Can Belie an Alibi" will explore other real world examples of geolocation data and satellite maps changing the litigation landscape as well as helping organizations pinpoint branch offices which may be engaged in activity that conflicts with the impending UK Bribery Act.
