Bruce Hemming Honored as Executive of the Year in Microbiological Services
Dr. Bruce Hemming has been instrumental in creating microbiological solutions and conducting research in his field for 30 years
SAINT LOUIS, MO, August 16, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Bruce C. Hemming Ph.D., President, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Microbe Inotech Laboratories, Inc., has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in microbiological services.
Dr. Hemming is an accomplished science and business executive with more than 35 years of direct experience in microbiology and its practical applications. His expertise in the research and development of biochemistry, plant pathology, microbiology, and advanced genetics has led not only to his success as the president of Microbe Inotech Laboratories, Inc., but also to his current participation on three biotechnology committees for multidisciplinary teams involved in original research. Microbe Inotech Laboratories, which is in its 20th year of operation, provides microbiological testing and identification for the environmental, food safety, food production, biotechnological, industrial and pharmaceutical marketplaces.
Previously, Dr. Hemming explored crop protection technology, serving as a project leader in the development of biofungicides in a venture involving the CSIRO Division of Soils Australia and universities in the U.S. His responsibilities included the development of collaborative agreements, preparation of regulatory documents, design and implementation of microbial physiology and tracking studies, coordination of the natural product and gene discovery effort, and field trials of various projects, including the first introduction into the environment of genetically engineered bacteria containing foreign genes. Dr. Hemming also spent more than ten years doing microbiological research with Monsanto. Additionally, he has worked as an adjunct professor at St. Louis University and University of Missouri-St. Louis, and as a visiting faculty member at the Institute for Genetics Education at the University of Wisconsin.
A graduate of Montana State University in Bozeman, MT., Dr. Hemming earned a Ph.D. in plant pathology in 1982. He also holds a master's degree in biochemistry, obtained from Brigham Young University in 1977, and a Bachelor of Science in microbiology, also from Brigham Young, which he earned in 1975.
For his extensive research, Dr. Hemming has earned many honors, awards and patents relating to his work. He has made presentations in Austria, England, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, and the former Yugoslavia, as well as at many U.S. universities. He also has more than 40 peer-reviewed journal articles and industrial publications to his credit. Citing his passion for chemistry and the microscope, which began during childhood, as the driving force behind his career, Dr. Hemming is humble about his accomplishments, simply saying, "I am proud to have offered so many solutions to different issues involving microorganisms."
